Program Notes:

System Requirements:

This program was designed to be run in Internet Explorer only.  For download instruction see Microsoft.com.

General Information:

      1.   Analysis must be re-executed and the graphs must be re-plotted after changing any of the input boxes.

This program requires the following input:

1.      Joist span (ft-in)

2.      SJI Joist Designation

The program accepts the following loading input:

1.      Up to ten concentrated loads

a.     Magnitudes (lbs)

b.     Locations (ft-in) (From left end of span)

2.      Up to five trapezoidal loads

a.     Starting uniform load (plf)

b.     Starting location (ft-in) (From left end of span)

c.      Ending uniform load (plf)

d.     Ending location (ft-in) (From left end of span)

3.      Up to ten uniform loads

a.     Uniform load is constant (plf)

b.     Starting location (ft-in) (From left end of span)

c.      Ending location (ft-in)   (From left end of span)

The following assumptions must be valid:

1.      The joist must be laterally stabilized in accordance with the SJI standards, e.g., attachments are spaced at 36" or less.

2.      Minimum web shear is 25% of the reaction due to the SJI loading.

3.      Deflection is calculated using the following assumptions:

a.     Prismatic beam behavior

b.     Shear deflection 15%

4.      All concentrated loads are at panel points.

5.      If a section of the joist is unloaded for more than 36" a message will be displayed indicating that an unbraced top cord segment may exist and must be evaluated.
